Up Next: 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore
Now that the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics are done, it’s time to look to the future. The 2012 London Olympics are still more than two years away, but we are only 145 days away from the very first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
I’m not sure what to expect with the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics. I do think that they are important to at least pay attention to. The minimum age for participation in the Youth Olympics is 14, which means that all of these athletes will be eligible to compete in the 2012 London Olympics. Some of them may decide to concentrate on college, but we might find the next Michael Phelps, Shawn Johnson, or Usain Bolt among the competitors.
The Youth Olympic Games are looking for volunteers, and they even have paid positions open. If you are interested, you can apply at the Singapore 2010 web site. They are also taking applications for torch bearers.
Tickets are supposed to go on sale in March, but so far, I haven’t seen any more details on them.
